The White leghorn is a superb layer, laying 300+ eggs a year and laying an egg a day for the first 2 years. These birds feature bright white feathers with a dark red comb and waddles. Leghorns will start to lay at 18-20 weeks up h til their first moult at 1.5-2 years old.

The leghorn is not only sought after because of their egg laying capability but for their low feed to egg production ration. Meaning they eat less feed than other breeds and still produce high amount of eggs.

Leghorns are both heat and cold tolerant to an extent. They do better in hot climate than cold. The biggest thing to watch in winter with these birds is their comb. Because their comb is so large, they are more susceptible to frost bite.

These birds are a great addition to any egg basket and will fulfil the cravings of even the biggest egg eating enthusiasts!
